Facebook spent $23 million on Mark Zuckerberg’s security in 2020

Facebook spent $23.44 million last year on CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s security. This is evident from a study by Protocol. The costs of protecting other tech industry CEOs also increased over the past year compared to 2019.

In 2019, Facebook spent $20.46 million on Mark Zuckerberg’s personal security, Protocol writes. That means Facebook spent 14.57 percent more in a year to protect Zuckerberg.

Facebook’s chief executive Sheryl Sandberg comes in second when it comes to personal security costs. In 2020, the company committed $7.65 million to secure this board member; in 2019 that was $4.37 million. So there is an increase of 75 percent.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai takes third place. He spent $5.4 million on his personal security in 2020, compared to $3.34 million in 2019. That’s 61.6 percent more. Lyft co-founder John Zimmer cost 31.1 percent more in 2020 at $2.06 million. In 2019, that was $1.57 million. Snap’s CEO Evan Spiegel completes the top five. Snap spent $1.67 million last year; in 2019 that was still $1.28 million. So in 2020, Snap spent 30.4 percent more on security for Mirror compared to 2019.
