Even 11-inch iPad Pro will get a mini LED screen

In the spring, Apple gave the iPad Pro a new mini-LED screen. At least: the largest 12.9-inch model has this screen technology. The smaller iPad Pro still has to make do with the traditional LCD screen. From next year, mini-LED will also be available on the 11-inch iPad Pro, reports a renowned Apple analyst.

The news comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, who is very knowledgeable about Apple’s plans. He says Apple plans to equip both the 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro 2022 with a mini LED screen.

Mini LED is designed to bring the LCD screen closer to OLED. The contrasts are greater and the blacks deeper: black is really black there. Unlike OLED, mini-LED does not use self-illuminated pixels. They are backlit (just like the regular LCD screen), but via 2500 local dimming zones. This produces a beautiful display, especially with HDR videos and photos.

Apple wants to bring mini LED to multiple devices. Kuo previously reported that the 2021 MacBook Pro models will also be equipped with a Retina XDR display, as Apple calls the mini LED screen. The Cupertino tech giant is expected to launch them in the third quarter of this year. Furthermore, the next generation MacBook Air is also waiting for a mini LED display. This is expected in 2022.

iPad Pro 2022

There have been several rumors about the iPad Pro that Apple will present next year. Apple would test with a glass back, which should enable wireless charging. Interestingly, the iPad Pro may also support two-way charging. This means you can charge devices — like your iPhone or AirPods — by placing them on the back of the iPad.

Furthermore, Apple has plans for the largest iPad ever. The screen must take on the size of the MacBook (14 inches or more), making it even more suitable for use as a laptop. However, it could be years before this iPad appears.
