Rockstar will release improved versions of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online on November 11 for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X and S. The developer still does not provide substantive details about what has been improved.
Besides the release date and the platforms on which the improved versions will appear, Rockstar does not give any details. Last year it was already announced that a new version for the new consoles would appear, but what exactly the ‘extended and improved’ version means, Rockstar does not yet say.
The developer does say that the updated versions of GTA will get new features. It is likely that the games will mainly receive an improvement graphically. GTA V and GTA Online are now playable on the new consoles via backward compatibility. Rockstar promises “special perks” for GTA Online players.
It was previously known that GTA V and GTA Online would come to the PlayStation 5 in the second half of 2021. Then Rockstar did not mention the Xbox Series X and S specifically, but now it does. The PS5 and Xbox Series X and S will be the third generation of consoles for which the 2013 game will be released.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S will receive a standalone version of GTA Online, which is separate from the versions on previous generation consoles. That standalone version will be free for the first three months for PS5 owners with a PlayStation Plus subscription. PlayStation Plus members who play the current version of GTA Online will receive one million GTA dollars every month from now until its release on PS5 via the PlayStation Store.
Additionally, Rockstar says it is working on special surprises around the 20th anniversary of GTA III, including for GTA Online players. In addition, both GTA Online and Red Dead Online will receive several updates in the coming months, including new content around illegal street racing, new Stunt Races and several new heist missions in GTA Online. Deadline and Survival modes are also being expanded. Red Dead Online will get eight new races in the coming week and the game will get several new missions this summer.
