FIFA games from EA Sports will retain the exclusive license for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League for years to come. EA says it has extended the agreement with UEFA for several years. EA also announced that FIFA 21 will be coming to Stadia on March 17.
It has not been disclosed for how many years the Champions League license has been fixed by the publisher of FIFA. EA writes that it is a deal of several years. In 2019, a FIFA game featuring the UEFA Champions League appeared for the first time in a long time. Before that, Konami had an exclusive license to the premier league of football for its PES games for ten years.
According to EA, the FIFA franchise is still growing in popularity. Of all FIFA games to date, more than 325 million copies have been sold and there are currently more FIFA 21 players than there were FIFA 20 players at the same time last year.
EA also announced that FIFA 21 will be released on March 17 for Google Stadia. A Stadia version had previously been announced, but it was not yet clear when it would appear. EA will also make the free-to-play PC game FIFA Online 4 available in more countries. These include Russia, Poland and Turkey. According to EA, the free game is now especially popular in Asia.
EA says it wants to expand the FIFA franchise and is working on six new ‘mobile experiences’ to that end. These vary from ‘authentic simulations’ to ‘unique arcade formats’. EA will announce more details about those mobile games at a later date.
