Motive Studios and EA Games announced during a livestream that the Dead Space remake will be released on January 27, 2023. The sci-fi survival horror game will be completely rebuilt on the Frostbite engine and will be available on Playstation 5, Xbox Series consoles and PC.

During the day the ‘Crafting the Tension’ live team The team at Motive Studios also revealed how they analyzed the art design, characters, and visual effects of the original game from 2008 and recreated it for the remake, without losing sight of the game’s basic ingredients. According to the studio, these are horror, immersion and a decrepit world.

Earlier this year it was already announced that Dead Space would get a completely new audio system. That was announced during a previous livestream from the developer that also explained the ALIVE system. That system stands for Adrenaline, Limbic System Response, Intelligent Dialogue, Vitals and Exertions. Each of these terms describes a separate part of the dynamic representation of the main character Isaac’s state. For example, the company promises much more nuanced sounds when moving, being out of breath and being in a state of tension through the system.

Dead Space was released in 2008. The game is about Isaac Clarke, who has to repair a spaceship and search for his partner Nicole, but in the process is opposed by monstrous aliens; the so-called necromorphs. The original game came out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Subsequently, EA in partnership with Visceral Games, at the time of the first Dead Space still known as EA Redwood Shores, released three main installments in the franchise. In 2017 the studio was closed. The remake is being made by Motive Studios, a Canadian studio of EA that previously made Star Wars: Squadrons and the Star Wars Battlefront II single player.
