Intel is said to have informed its partners that it will cut the prices of its desktop processors by 10 to 15 percent. That is what Digitimes claims based on its own sources at motherboard manufacturers.
According to Digitimes, these are eighth and ninth generation Core desktop processors, or Coffee Lake and Coffee Lake Refresh. Intel is said to have already notified its PC and motherboard partners of the price changes, but it is unknown when they will take effect. Intel’s current processor price list does not reflect the changes.
It is not often that Intel makes large-scale price reductions for processors. It is not known what the reason for the price adjustment would be. On the one hand, the chipmaker has been scaling up its 14nm chip production to meet demand, making a price cut seem unlikely.
On the other hand, Intel faces more competition from AMD. That manufacturer introduced its 7nm Ryzen 3000 processors at the end of last month with which it tries to compete with Intel’s Core processors of the latest generations. Intel has not yet responded to the rumor.
