Darth Vader is featured in the new Star Wars trailer. At least, the infamous and immediately recognizable breathing of the space villain appears briefly in the first trailer of The Rise of Skywalker, the last part of the new trilogy.

The trailer of the film mainly shows old images from the first Star Wars films. That starts with the two suns that rise on Tatooine and that hero Luke Skywalker gazes at melancholy, to battles from the most recent The Last Jedi. More than half of the trailer consists of footage of Ben Kenobi, Chancellor Palpatine and his fight with Mace Windu, and the forbidden love between Anakin and Padmé.

Two familiar old and new sounds can also be heard at the end of the trailer. De Keizer tells in his characteristic hoarse voice “Your journey… nears its end”, on which the heavy breathing of Darth Vader can be heard immediately. It is not immediately clear from the teaser what exactly that indicates. The Rise of Skywalker is the last film of the new trilogy in the Star Wars universe, which also sees a return of many of the old cast. Previous films have starred Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and The Last Jedi also featured Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. The trilogy should tell an end to the story of the jedi.

Fortunately, the trailer also shows a lot of new images, such as a fleet of Y- and B-wings that seems to stand against a huge other fleet of Imperial Star Destroyers. You can also see fights between Rey and Kylo Ren, C-3PO has very dark eyes, and Rey does an impression of Darth Maul from The Phantom Menace.

The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20. Earlier this week, another trailer from a new Star Wars movie was also shown, namely that of The Mandalorian. The series will be released exclusively on the new streaming service Disney+. There will also be an exclusive series on Obi-Wan Kenobi later on and a prequel series to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story based on the adventures of Cassian Andor.
