Software developer Corel has released version 2 of its photo management program AfterShot Pro, which includes a 64-bit edition. The new version of AfterShot has to compete with Adobe Lightroom, among others.

The first versions of AfterShot were supposed to counterbalance packages like Adobe Lightroom and Aperture from Apple, but Corel failed to capture serious market share with its photo management program. AfterShot Pro 2.0 makes another attempt and Corel offers support for a wider range of raw formats in this release, among other things. In addition, the package is now available in 64bit, which means that you can take advantage of more working memory for photo editing and management.

AfterShot 2.0 is now also available in 64bit on Linux, as well as on Windows and OS X. The photo management program is up to 30 percent faster than the previous versions, according to Corel. The package also has an improved anti-noise filter from the company Athentech and AfterShot can read thirty more different raw formats.

The Windows version of AfterShot 2.0 offers some specific features for HDR photography. These will also be rolled out to the Linux and OS X versions later this summer. AfterShot 2.0 will cost $70, although users of the 1.x release or competing package will receive an offer for an upgrade.
