Elon Musk says there may be a small fee for commercial users and governments who use Twitter. Musk recently took over Twitter for $41 billion.
Elon Musk gives no further details, such as a specification of which commercial users and government users may be affected by the payment requirement, what amounts would be involved and when this would take effect. He only says that there may be a ‘small compensation’.
Musk immediately says that Twitter will always be free to use for casual users. That will probably remain so because he sees the takeover of Twitter as an important step to maintain and develop the social media platform as a ‘public town square’, in which everyone should be able to have their say.
A week ago, Twitter and Musk reached an agreement on a acquisition amount of 41 billion euros, or 44 billion dollars. Musk indicated that he wants to make Twitter “better than ever” and introduce new features. He also said that the algorithms on the platform should be made public. Furthermore, the South African-born American wants to take a tougher look at spam bots and authenticate ‘all people’ on the platform.
