Google browser Chrome seems to be getting support for closing tabs by double-clicking the mouse or touchpad. This appears from a commit in Chromium Gerrit. Microsoft Edge already has that feature.

The function is called ‘double click to close taband means that users can double-click with the mouse or touchpad to close the active tab. Closing a tab is now only possible with mouse and touchpad by clicking on the cross. Also, users can use a keyboard shortcut.

Google seems to have copied the function from Microsoft, says Android Police. Edge has had the function for about eight months. It is off by default, but can be enabled in the settings. Before the feature came to Edge, it had been in preparation for almost two years. There is already one extension for Chrome which allows closing tabs with mouse clicks.
