CEO Meizu: Qualcomm won’t make Snapdragon 865+ this year

Qualcomm will not make a Snapdragon 865+ this year, claims a CEO of smartphone maker Meizu. Last year a modified version of the predecessor Snapdragon 855 came out and it was rumored that it would happen again this year.

Meizu’s marketing chief does not provide any further explanation in his post on Weibo why there will not be a boosted version of the Snapdragon 865, reports MyDrivers. Meizu has partnered with the American company and makes smartphones with Qualcomm socs; so it is in a position where it gets information from the US company about upcoming socs. Qualcomm has not commented on the rumor. The Plus version of the 855 has higher clock speeds for the cpu and gpu cores, but other differences are minimal.

Last year there was a Snapdragon 855+, but in the years before Qualcomm stuck to one high-end soc: the 845 and 835. In 2016, the processor designer came up with the Snapdragon 820 and 821 in succession. The Snapdragon 865 is in many expensive ones. high-end smartphones, such as the OnePlus 8 phones, some versions of the Samsung Galaxy S20 and the Oppo Find X2 and X2 Pro. Manufacturers must purchase it together with the X55 modem, which has support for 5g.
