In one year, 75 percent more Chromebooks were sold. That is what analysis agency Canalys says in a report. This puts the Chromebook segment outperforming the global PC market, which grew 10 percent. The sale of tablets also seems to be stagnating, according to Canalys.

US-based HP continues to lead the Chromebook segment in the second quarter of 2021 with 36.4 percent, compared to 29.5 percent last year. HP sold 4.32 million Chromebook devices last quarter, according to Canalys. Lenovo sold 2.5 million Chromebooks during the second quarter of this year and saw its market share rise from 20.8 percent last year to 21.6 percent this year. In third place is Acer with 1.8 million Chromebooks sold and 15.7 percent market share compared to 15 percent in the same period last year.

“The success of Chromebooks continues,” said Brian Lynch, an analyst at Canalys. “Governments and education systems want to integrate these devices in the long term. Because Google has acquired a stable market position in the education field, they will do everything they can this year to also be commercially successful,” it sounds.

Apple remains the market leader in the tablet segment. The tech giant from Cupertino reportedly sold 14.1 million tablets in the past quarter and achieves a 36.3 percent market share with this result. That’s several percentage points less than the 38 percent market share the company was able to claim last year. Samsung is doing a lot better in the tablet market, according to Canalys. The market share of the South Korean company rose to 20.5 percent last quarter. Last year it was still 18.7 percent. Lenovo is in third place in the tablet market. The Chinese company had a 7 percent market share last year, now it is 12 percent.

In the global PC market, Lenovo has nothing to worry about either. The company achieved a market share of 19.7 percent during the second quarter of this year. Last year it was 18.1 percent. Apple is in second place with 18.1 percent compared to 16.7 percent last year. HP has the third largest market share of the global PC market. The American company serves 15.8 percent of the market. In 2020, according to Canalys, this was still 14.7 percent.
