Boston Dynamics has started selling its Spot robot to all US companies that are interested in it. The four-legged friend has made fame in numerous films in recent years.
American companies can order the Spot on the Boston Dynamics website. The company already loaned the robots to companies last year, but now they are actually for sale. For $74,500, buyers will receive a 110cm long four-legged robot that weighs 32.5kg and is 84cm high in a standing position.
The Spot contains a 605Wh battery, which allows the Spot to run around for an hour and a half. The standby time is three hours and charging the battery takes two hours. The robot has 2.4GHz WiFi and a Gigabit Ethernet connection. A remote control with 7″ touchscreen is included.
The Spot has a maximum speed of 1.6 meters per second, which is just under 6 km/h. The robot can carry 14kg of weight. Boston Dynamics also offers a variety of add-ons, such as the $21,800 Spot Cam. This is a 360-degree camera that can be mounted on top of the robot. There is also a lidar extension, and there are extensions that add CPU or GPU power.
Boston Dynamics has been working on its Spot robot for years, focusing in particular on robots that move naturally and can maintain their balance. The company was bought by Google in 2013, but sold by the search giant to the Japanese Softbank in 2017.
