Blizzard is going to enable login via Facebook
Logging in to games from Blizzard will soon be possible via Facebook Login. In addition, it will be possible to stream games directly via the Facebook Live API via the Go Live functionality in Blizzard’s games.
The latter means that gamers can live stream their activity to their Facebook timeline. In the first instance, we are working on making the video functionality available in Overwatch. Game login via Facebook should be available later this month for games such as World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone Starcraft II, Diablo III and Overwatch.
In addition to streaming video, Facebook also brings a host of new opportunities for marketing and other advertising-related content. Blizzard already made use of Facebook’s marketing machine in the run-up to the release of Overwatch, Blizzard writes in a press release. Not only Facebook is used, but also Instagram.
It also gives Blizzard the ability to add more “social” connections to its games. For example, the Overwatch event around the start of sales was broadcast live via Facebook, but the games company already streamed Heroes of the Dorm, a student championship around Heroes of the Storm.
