X Bit Labs message that ATi’s new generation of video chips has passed the validation process of the PCI-SIG organization. This organization tests the extent to which PCI Express products adhere to the PCI Express standard, something that ATi’s first-generation PCI Express video cards still had problems with. The R520, R520 GL, RV515 XT and RV530 XT chips have all been successfully tested. The fact that the chips have been tested by the PCI-SIG implies that the first production models rolled off the assembly line a few weeks ago. ATi’s partners can therefore expect the first batch of chips from ATi this month. This information has also been confirmed by sources close to ATi’s partners. When the new generation of cards will be introduced exactly is still unknown, as well as the exact specifications.
