ASUS has presented the Rog Phone 5s and 5s Pro. These are gaming phones that have a Snapdragon 888 Plus soc, as opposed to the regular 888 in the ROG Phone 5 phones. In addition, the delay with touch input has been reduced slightly further.
The ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro register touch input 360 times per second, compared to 300 times of the ROG Phone 5. So the screen should respond slightly faster. That display is also the same, namely a 6.78 “OLED screen with a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz and a resolution of 2448×1080 pixels. The design of the phone has also remained the same.
The soc goes from a Snapdragon 888 to an 888 Plus. It is slightly faster in some areas. The Cortex X1 core can run in 888 up to 2.84GHz and comes in the Plus version up to 3GHz. The part of the soc that is responsible for machine learning tasks also has slightly more computing power in the Plus variant.
ASUS only releases a regular and Pro variant, but there will be no successor for the Ultimate. However, the Pro now goes up to 18GB of memory and 512GB of storage, something that with the ROG Phone 5 is reserved for the Ultimate version.
ASUS presented the ROG Phone 5 half a year ago. Like the current versions, the new versions have a 6000mAh battery that can be charged with 65W wired. It is still unknown when the ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro will be released and what the various configurations will cost. The new variants will replace the current ROG Phone 5 when stores run out of stock.
