AOC has announced the Agon AG251FZ. The 24.5″ monitor has a screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 240Hz. The monitor also offers support for Adaptive Sync and FreeSync.
The monitor is equipped with a TN panel that can display a maximum of 240 images per second. It is probably a panel from AU Optronics. This panel manufacturer started production of 240Hz panels of about 25″ last summer, according to Tftcentral, and is now also expected to produce 27″ variants. AOC promises a response time of 1ms, a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a maximum brightness of 400cd/m2. The screen can be connected with a VGA connection, DVI, HDMI or Displayport. To be able to use the maximum 240Hz refresh rate, an HDMI 2.0 or Displayport 1.2 connection must be used.
The monitor housing is capable of setting the screen to landscape or portrait mode. Furthermore, the screen can be rotated or tilted and the height can be adjusted by 130mm. A set of 3W speakers is incorporated in the housing and the screen can be mounted on the wall with a 100×100 Vesa standard.
Last week BenQ launched a monitor with a 240Hz panel. Asus and Acer have also released 24.5″ screens that can display such a high refresh rate. Presumably all these screens use the same panel.
AOC indicates that the monitor will be on the shelves from January 2017. The suggested retail price is 499 euros.
