Android 11 update will not come to OnePlus 7 and 7T until later

OnePlus has postponed the Android 11 update for its OnePlus 7 and 7T smartphones. A problem has been discovered in the software that needs to be solved first, so the release will not be until next year.

The smartphone maker has posted an announcement on its Chinese forum explaining that testing the Android 11 software discovered a problem with data decryption. Details of what exactly went wrong are not given. It is clear that the help of Qualcomm must be called in before the problem can be solved.

It should be noted, however, that the problem is in the Hydrogen version of the Android software, which is not used in Europe; it concerns the variant intended for the Chinese market. Since there is a lot of overlap in the underlying code, it is likely that the problems also affect the European variant of the Android 11 update with the Oxygen skin.

OnePlus expects Qualcomm to come up with a solution sometime in the next week. After that, the smartphone maker can start with a closed beta for the Android 11 update. It is not clear how long it will take and when the final release is scheduled.

Initially, the Android 11 update for the OnePlus 7 and 7T should have been released this month. Due to the bug in data decryption, this timeline is therefore not met.
