AMD Introduces Low Cost Active DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
AMD has introduced a low-cost, active Displayport to DVI adapter. The active adapter allows users to apply the displayport to an HD 5000 series for Eyefinity setups. The adapter would cost $30.
HD 5000 series video cards can drive more than two screens, but the displayport must be used from the third screen. Many displays do not have a displayport input, so an active adapter must be used. However, those adapters were very expensive until now, but AMD has now changed that. In collaboration with several companies, the hardware manufacturer developed a low-cost adapter. The adapter is active and converts the displayport signal into a single-link DVI signal. With the adapter, displays with a resolution of up to 1920×1200 pixels and a refresh rate of 60Hz can be controlled.
The adapter should soon be available from various manufacturers, for both mini-displayport and displayport, for a price of about $30. AMD’s various board partners will probably also supply the adapters together with video cards.
