AMD: ‘Bethesda can add DLSS to Starfield if it wants’

Bethesda can add DLSS to Starfield if it wants. A top AMD executive told The Verge this. AMD has a partnership with Bethesda, but this would not stop the developer from building support for DLSS into games.

According to AMD CEO Frank Azor, it is true that money is also involved in this partnership. But according to the man, this does not mean that Bethesda is bound by contractual obligations that state that Bethesda may only use FSR, AMD’s own upscaling technology. According to Azor In some cases, AMD does ask that FSR be given priority. However, if Bethesda wants to support DLSS, the company wouldn’t stand in their way.

However, according to Azor, Bethesda would have chosen FSR because not only many PCs, but also the Xbox Series consoles, support this upscaling technique. Nvidia DLSS is only supported by recent video cards from Nvidia itself. According to The Verge, Bethesda has not yet indicated whether Starfield will also receive support for DLSS or XeSS in the future.

Earlier this month, an X/Twitter user discovered that Starfield only supports AMD FSR 2.0, and not Nvidia DLSS or Intel XeSS. The user did this by digging through the game’s preload installation files.
