Amazon has shown the Echo Show 15, the largest smart screen of the brand with a size of 15.6″. The screen can be hung on the wall or placed on a surface by means of a stand and can be used in landscape or portrait.

The screen of the Echo Show 15 has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. In one of the corners of the device is the 5-megapixel camera that can be hidden with a slide. The smart screen works with Amazon’s AZ2 Neural Edge processor. This quad-core could run 22 times more TOPS than the previous processor.

This new processor would be specifically designed to execute machine learning-based voice commands faster than its predecessor, so that the processing of these commands no longer has to take place via the cloud, but can be done on the device itself. This means that when the device recognizes a user via facial recognition, any voice commands can be executed faster.

The Echo Show 15 further uses this facial recognition to personalize the screen based on the person walking by. The screen can then, for example, show calendar appointments, or show recently played music. Amazon sees the device as the “digital center” of a home that allows users to manage other Amazon devices, see calendars and track packages. Amazon believes the device can be used primarily in the kitchen, so it focuses on things like quick and easy access to a cookbook app and shopping list.

The camera also allows users to start video conferences with others. It should also be possible to watch TV series and movies on the device through streaming services such as Amazon Prime and Netflix. When the smart screen is not in use, it can act as a digital photo frame. Amazon’s Echo Show 15 costs 259 euros converted with VAT. It is not yet known whether the device will also be sold in the Benelux.
