Adobe announces a free version of Photoshop. This is the web version of the photo editing program. It is not yet known when the free version will be available. Currently only Canadian users have access.
Opposite The Verge says an Adobe spokesperson that the web version of Photoshop will have a ‘freemium’ revenue model. The idea is that the free version doesn’t include all the advanced features, but only the core Photoshop features are free to use. It is not yet clear which core functions are involved.
According to Adobe, the free web version allows users to try Photoshop first. The full version of Photoshop has to be paid for. Also, this version can only be used in the browser. Those who want to install the program on their computer will also have to pay.
Photoshop for the web was already available to Creative Cloud subscribers. The photo editing program got a web version in October, along with Illustrator. Projects can also be shared with customers or other parties via the web version, without the need for a Creative Cloud subscription. The projects can then only be viewed.
