Acer presented four laptops and a Chromebook at its own event in New York. The laptops, with prices from 300 to 500 euros, will be introduced between May and June. Some of the laptops can be ordered with a touchscreen.

The cheapest laptop that Acer has announced, the Aspire E11, will be on sale from mid-June for at least 300 euros and is largely the same as the V11, which will cost at least 350 euros and will be on sale in May. The biggest difference is that the more expensive V11 has a touchscreen on board.

Both laptops, which do not have an onboard fan, can be ordered with a hard drive of up to 1TB; it is not clear what effect the storage space has on the price and whether an SSD can also be chosen. The laptops can be supplied with a Celeron or a quad-core Pentium CPU, although the exact model and clock speed are not known. The laptops have a maximum of 8GB onboard memory.

Both laptops are 21.2 millimeters thin and weigh 1.29 kilograms. The exact dimensions of the laptops are not clear, but it is known that the screens have a screen diagonal of 11.6 “inches. The screen of unknown make has a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels. The laptops come with Windows 8.1. it is unknown which WiFi chip is on board, but Acer has indicated that the laptops are equipped with at least one USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port and an SD card slot.

The Aspire E14, with a 14″ screen, and the E15, with a 15″ screen, are slightly more expensive. According to the information provided by Acer, the 15″ version starts at 400 euros and the 14″ version at 500, but there is a good chance that this is just one mistake and the prices have been mixed up: it is obvious that the 15″ version is more expensive because of the larger screen.

The laptops, which come with Windows 8.1, can be equipped with up to 16 gigabytes of memory and a hard drive of 1 terabyte. Again, it is not known whether an SSD can also be chosen. The laptop can come with Intel Core CPUs of the Haswell architecture or an AMD CPU. A GeForce video card from nVidia or a Radeon card from AMD can also be built in.

Buyers can opt for a touch LED screen or a ‘regular’ LED screen, and a ‘full HD’ or ‘HD’ resolution; Acer does not specify the exact resolutions. You can also opt for a matte or glossy screen. The battery is of unknown make but will last seven hours, Acer promises, although it is not clear under what circumstances that is. The laptops will be in stores in June.

The Chromebook, equipped with Google’s laptop OS in which the Chrome browser is central, comes with a Core i3 CPU from Intel. That’s relatively a lot for a Chromebook. Little else is known about the Chromebook, such as the price and further specifications. At the event, Acer also announced a new All In One, the Aspire U5.
