YouTube Music lets users create ‘radio stations’ through filters of their choice

YouTube Music released the “Create a radio” feature after testing it late last year. This addition gives users the option to build their own radio stations using a number of settings and filters.

Users can choose from up to thirty artists to create a radio station, reports TechCrunch based on information from Google. You can also set how often these artists may pass by and there are filters to adjust the atmosphere of the station. For example, you can choose from quiet music or songs with more tempo. The passing songs can be limited to the selected artists, but it is also possible to allow content from a wider group of artists.

Before this ‘Create a radio’ feature was available, users could choose from pre-compiled playlists, radios or albums. These are often based on choices made by the algorithms; there are few settings available for users to influence themselves. According to Google, the new feature gives users more control over their music experiences. Other services such as Spotify and Apple Music offer users the option of compiling their own playlists based on an artist or specific song, but there are few further setting options.

The feature, which was tested at the end of last year, will now be available for paying and non-paying users, so it may take a while before it is actually available. The new radio stations will be available for the iOS and Android versions of YouTube Music.
