The YouTube Music app for the Apple Watch has been released, but the one for Google’s own Wear OS is not available yet, nor is there a release date for it. Meanwhile, the Wear OS app from its predecessor Google Play Music will be retired this month.

The YouTube Music app for the Apple Watch allows you to browse the music service’s library and control the music. You can also see which songs the service is playing on the watch face. The YouTube Music app is now available for iPhones, iPads and now the Apple Watch.

Meanwhile, Wear OS users only have the option to control their music remotely after turning it on via the smartphone. A Wear OS watch mirrors the operating options that a media notification in Android also has.

The Google Play Music app for Wear OS, on the other hand, was able to browse through the library, control music and even store it offline so that people could also listen to music without a phone at hand, possibly via Bluetooth headphones.

Google announced the release of the Apple Watch app with a blog post saying about the Wear OS variant, “keep checking for news of availability on Wear OS.”

While all of this is a bad sign for Wear OS, Google still intends to keep the OS alive. The next version of the OS, expected this fall, of the OS should start apps 20 percent faster, pairing should be easier and the interface overhauled. New wearable socs from Qualcomm are also available.
