Google is currently testing a new feature in the company’s Chrome web browser that will allow Chrome users to save Chrome passwords to a Google account; this works even if synchronization is not enabled in the browser.
The experimental feature has landed in Chrome 89 and must be enabled before it becomes available. Once enabled, and with no sync enabled, you can access the Chrome password manager page by pointing the browser to this URL: chrome: // settings / passwords
Check “Saved passwords”; you will see ‘You can also view your Google account passwords here. In addition, you may get the new ‘move to Google account’ option for saved passwords that have not yet been saved there when you click the three dots next to a saved password. .
Google Chrome will display an option to sign in with passwords stored in the Google account during login when you select the username or password field.
If you are using a password that is not stored in the Google account, you will be prompted to move it to the Google account so that you can access it from anywhere you are signed in to the account, and if you sign in, you will get the option to save the account information locally or in the Google account.
How to enable the feature in Chrome Canary
Google has added the feature to the Canary version of the Chrome browser. You need to do the following to enable it:
- Open
chrome://flagsin chrome browser’s address bar. - Now search for “account data store”.
- Now set the flag “Enable account data storage for passwords” to Enabled.
- Now set the “Enable IPH for the account data storage for passwords” flag to Enabled.
- Now restart Google Chrome.
The only thing left to check is that sync isn’t turned on.
