Xiaomi releases Mi 9 with 48-megapixel camera and 20W wireless charging function

Xiaomi has announced the Mi 9 and Mi 9 Transparent Edition. The smartphones are equipped with a Snapdragon 855, three cameras and a fingerprint scanner behind the screen. The top model gets 12GB ram and according to Xiaomi, the Mi 9 wirelessly charges faster than other devices.

Both versions of the Xiaomi Mi 9 have a 6.39″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels and an integrated fingerprint scanner. Three cameras are placed on the back: a main camera of 48 megapixels and an aperture of f/1.75, a secondary 12-megapixel camera that Xiaomi says allows two times optical zoom and 16-megapixel camera with a wide-angle lens of 117 degrees.

Xiaomi claims that the Mi 9 has the fastest wireless charging of all devices on the market thanks to the Charge Turbo function. To enable wireless charging with 20W, the optional Charge Turbo charging pad or a car mount from Xiaomi is required. The manufacturer states that the 3300mAh battery can be fully charged in 100 minutes. Wired that would take about an hour via the supplied 27W charger.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 will first be launched in its home country China. The manufacturer would also like to release the device in Europe and may announce more details about this during a planned press conference at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The Mi 9 comes in different versions. The version with 6GB/128GB would cost 2999 yuan or converted 393 euros and the version with 8GB/128GB will have a price tag of 3299 yuan, or 432 euros. The Transparent Edition with a partly transparent back and 12GB / 256GB would receive a price of 3999 yuan or converted 524 euros. There will also be a mid-range version called the Mi 9 SE. This device has a 5.97 “screen, a Snapdragon 712-soc and a price of converted 264 euros for the version with 6GB/64GB.
