Xiaomi Mi A1 gets fast charging with Android Oreo update

The Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphone gets the possibility of fast charging with an update. According to an Indian site, the smartphone is indeed full faster after the update, which the manufacturer is currently testing. Xiaomi has not yet provided an explanation about the feature.

The feature is in the Android Oreo beta for Mi A1, claims TelecomTalk. The site tested with a Dash Charger from OnePlus, which was indeed able to charge the Mi A1 faster than under the stable version of Android Nougat for the Mi A1.

Many Android smartphones support fast charging, but it is not often that manufacturers add support for the technology with an update. The Mi A1 must have all the necessary hardware on board for support. Xiaomi ships the Mi A1 with a 5V/2A charger as standard, with which it supports standard charging up to 10W. Fast charging usually goes with 15W or more.

It is unknown how great the power with which the Mi A1 charges under Nougat and Oreo, leaving it unclear whether Xiaomi really added fast charging via a technique like Qualcomm’s Quickcharge.
