WSJ: Discord Talks Only With Microsoft For $10 Billion Acquisition

Discord is negotiating exclusively with Microsoft about a possible acquisition, claims the Wall Street Journal. The acquisition amount they are negotiating would be at least $10 billion and an agreement could follow next month.

The newspaper speaks on the basis of information from sources familiar with the talks of “advanced negotiations” for a takeover amount of USD 10 billion or more. If the takeover talks do not fail, an agreement could follow next month, the newspaper classifies the status of the negotiations.

Earlier this week, reports appeared in the media that Discord had approached several parties, including Microsoft, about a possible acquisition, but that the company may also want to go public. Amazon and Epic Games had also expressed interest, Bloomberg claimed.

Microsoft was in the race last year to take over TikTok, partly or not, but those talks came to nothing. With the current negotiations, Microsoft is showing renewed interest in acquiring a major social media service. Discord became popular as a chat service for gamers, but then tried to appeal to a wider audience.
