Windows 10 users report crashes after recent update

Several Windows 10 users have reported installation issues, system crashes, performance issues, and user profile bugs since the last operating system update.

The most recent update, KB5001330 for version 20H2/2004 of Windows 10, was pushed to users early last week as a major cumulative update for April. The update includes an important security update that addresses several vulnerabilities. Since then, users have been reporting issues that even lead to system crashes.

Some of the users who report on social media, the Windows community and the Windows Latest forum, indicate that they are not getting the update installed, the website writes. They get error messages 0x800f081f, 0x800f0984 and 0x800f0922.

In some cases, updating leads to a temporary user profile bug, reports Windows Latest. In fact, a new profile is created when the OS starts after the update. Files and settings of users can then disappear. Administrators are logged in as a user or can no longer run anything as an administrator. Uninstalling the update or manually moving the user files resolves this issue.

Other users are reporting fps issues when playing games and game crashes since the update. Also, users report system crashes and Blue Screen of Death. Windows Latest also reports problems with DNS and shared folders. There is a work-around for that too, by disabling Multicast Name Resolution in the DNS client and then entering ipconfig/flushdns in the command prompt, the problems should be over.

The Windows 10 cumulative update fixes five zero days and 102 other vulnerabilities, among other things. Also, this update was supposed to fix issues that arose after the previous update, such as issues with Blue Screens of Death caused by printers, and a broken search bar in File Explorer.
