Windows 10 preview update includes notification center

An update to the preview version of Windows 10 includes a notification center. Microsoft did not announce this ‘Action Center’ before. The feature comes from Windows Phone, which has included the Action Center since version 8.1.

In Action Center, Windows 10 collects notifications from various apps in an overview, so that users are immediately aware of the push notifications of all apps on the PC. In this preview build, Action Center appears as an icon at the bottom right of the system tray, right next to the time and date. The screen with notifications can be seen above, according to a screenshot from Microsoft.

That makes the implementation slightly different from that on Windows Phone, where the Action Center can be reached by swiping down from above the screen, an implementation similar to how iOS and Android do on mobile devices. With the Action Center, Microsoft is adding a feature that Apple also previously put in OS X.

In addition to the Action Center, the update also includes other smaller new features. For example, users can drag apps from one monitor to another by pressing Windows-Shift arrow. An animation has also been added that will play when the user switches desktops.

The Action Center is the first major new feature Microsoft has put into preview without announcing it first. Microsoft previously hinted that it hasn’t announced many new features yet. The preview version of Windows 10 came online a few weeks ago.

Update, 8:07 AM: Tweaker Xymie announces that there are even more new features in the preview version, such as a ‘battery saver’ that limits background tasks when the battery falls below a certain level and ‘data sense’, a function to monitor data usage via WiFi and mobile networks. monitor. Both features come from Windows Phone, notes WPC. Swimmer4 also points to a YouTube video in which new settings can be seen under the heading zPC settings. Microsoft has been using the letter ‘z’ for years for testing applications on Windows Phone. Those settings contain an “OEM” option, presumably for settings that a computer manufacturer can add, while below that is a “Pending or deprecated” option, presumably a repository of experimental settings.
