WhatsApp lets users send videos with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels

WhatsApp users have recently been able to send higher quality videos to each other. The service talks about HD videos, although the resolution is 1280×720 pixels. The default resolution is 848×480 pixels.

When users want to share a previously recorded video via WhatsApp, when they select a video, they are presented with an interface that allows them to shorten the video or add text, for example. Recently, an HD symbol can also be seen above. When clicking, a pop-up will appear asking what quality the user wants. By default this setting is 848×480 pixels, but new is the option to choose ‘HD quality’, with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels.

This function cannot be used when users record a video in WhatsApp, but only when selecting a previously recorded video. Mark Zuckerberg already indicated at the end of last week that the feature was coming, but then spoke of it ‘soon’. This may be a phased rollout, which is not yet available to all users.
