Western Digital shows a prototype of a 1TB memory card at Photokina 2016. The card is manufactured by SanDisk, which was acquired by WD last year. Details about the sdxc card are not yet available.

Western Digital is demonstrating the SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB SDXC card at the photography show, but the manufacturer is keeping the specifications and information about a possible release date under wraps. The manufacturer probably uses 48-layer 256Gbit 3d nandflash for the card, which SanDisk and Toshiba produce under the name ‘Bics’. That production should have started by now, judging by the announcement of this memory last year.

The 1TB card demonstration comes 16 years after the introduction of SanDisk’s first 64MB card and two years after the announcement of a 512GB SDXC card in SanDisk’s Extreme Pro series. That 512GB card is currently in the Pricewatch for an average price of around 400 euros.
