A very rare prototype of an Apple Macintosh is going under the hammer at auction house Bonham. The old but still working computer has a target price of between 110,000 and 160,000 euros. However, it is expected that the device will raise a much higher amount.

The Macintosh Personal Computer offered for auction is one of the earliest prototypes of the Macintosh and dates from 1983. There is only one other copy of this prototype. There is a still working 5 1/4 inch ‘Twiggy’ disk drive and that is also very rare. Apple eventually replaced this type of drive with a 3 1/2 inch drive from Sony.
The new Macintosh was launched in 1984 during the Superbowl. A commercial for the computer, directed by Ridley Scott, is still considered one of the best commercials ever made. According to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, the launch of the Macintosh was an incredibly important event that has changed people’s lives.
