US Consumers’ Association: iPhone 6 bends faster than 6 Plus
The iPhone 6 bends faster than the 6 Plus, claims the American consumer association Consumer Reports after its own research. The 6 bends at a load of 31 kilos, the 6 Plus can handle a weight of 40 kilos before the housing bends.
Consumer Report has also put other phones through the same test. Only the HTC One (M8), also with a metal housing, bent under the same weight as the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 Plus does a little better, but devices like the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can handle a lot more weight: the LG G3 and iPhone 5 both came to about 60 kilos, the Note 3 only broke in the test at 68 kilos.
The US Consumers’ Association, which has a major influence on sales and who made ‘antennagate’ a big problem for Apple in 2010 by advising consumers not to buy the smartphone, thinks there is no big problem with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. “All of these phones should survive typical use.” With this, Consumer Reports joins Apple, which previously called the problem, which has since been dubbed ‘bendgate’, ‘very rare’.
The stories about bent iPhones came out last week. People would contend with bent iPhone 6 Plus units after stuffing the device into tight jeans or by sitting on it while the phone was in the back pocket.
