Meta has released an update for the Instagram iPhone app that should fix the app crashing. Version 255.0 of the application would crash right after startup. According to users, no error message appeared.

According to those affected the problem persisted for several days, roughly since the release of version 255.0 on October 3. Version 255.1 was released minutes before the publication of this article, which should eliminate the crash. According to the version history on the App Store this is an update with “bug fixes and performance improvements”, although this description appears with every update visible in the version history of the Instagram app. Users are now reporting on Twitter that the update does indeed fix the issue.

In recent days, hundreds of users on Twitter reported that the application for iPhone was not working properly and also Notebookcheck managed to reproduce the problem. According to the medium, there was only a workaround that required the application to be removed. Instagram would then work ‘normally’ again after reinstalling, provided the user let the app run in the background and therefore did not close it. Meta and Instagram never acknowledged the bug.
