Director Dan Trachtenberg is no longer involved with Sony’s Uncharted film. It is the fifth time that the film, which has been in the works for ten years, has lost a director. A replacement would be in sight.
It is not clear why Trachtenberg left the project. Deadline does not provide any information about this. However, the site reports that the director previously involved with 10 Cloverfield Lane and Black Mirror is no longer working on Uncharted. According to Variety, Sony has since confirmed that. Sony is said to be in talks with replacements and a new director should be appointed by the end of the summer.
Actor Tom Holland is still involved in the film. He has been cast to play the lead character Nathan Drake. It has now also been announced that the Uncharted film is the first production to be made by Sony PlayStation Productions, the studio that the console manufacturer set up last year to film its own games.
There have been plans for an Uncharted movie since 2009. Several scenarios have been written and a total of five directors were involved in the past ten years, sums up game website Polygon. Despite the tumultuous development, Sony has already communicated a release date. The film is set to go into production next year and hit theaters December 18, 2020.
