The developers of Twitter are working on a new subscription formula whereby subscribers will no longer see advertisements on the social media platform. According to CEO Elon Musk, it will be a more expensive subscription formula, although it is not yet clear how much it will cost.

The announcement followed a statement from Musk in which he states that advertisements on Twitter are ‘too frequent’ and ‘too large’. Twitter’s CEO said steps will be taken to address both issues “in the coming weeks.” It is not clear what exactly this approach entails. Shortly afterwards, Musk mentioned a new, upcoming subscription formula that would make Twitter ad-free, but will also be more expensive. It is not clear how much Musk wants to charge for this subscription.

Twitter has been offering the renewed Twitter Blue subscription since Monday, December 12 for $8 per month. iOS users who purchase the subscription through the Twitter app pay $11 per month. Twitter Blue subscribers can edit tweets, activate a reading mode, upload longer videos in 1080p resolution and already see fifty percent fewer ads. If their account has been verified by Twitter, these subscribers will also get a blue check mark next to their account name.
