Twitter gives users option not to get replies to tweets

Twitter will give users the option not to receive replies to tweets or only replies from people they follow. The feature should contain the negative or even hateful reactions that many Twitter users receive.

The feature will have four options, writes The Verge based on a Twitter event at CES. Statement is the option to not receive answers and Global is the current setting where anyone can answer. A test of the feature will begin in a few months, with a worldwide release to follow later this year. The options will be found in the Tweet compose window.

With the option, Twitter wants to prevent users from receiving negative reactions to tweets. Since anyone can reply now, users and bots can post negative comments under tweets. If users no longer want this, this can be limited with the function.

Twitter described even more new features, including topic following. The social medium will soon start with that. That feature was previously announced. There will also be a new interface for displaying conversations.

Name of the institution Who can reply to a tweet
Statement No one
panel Only people mentioned in the tweet
Group Only people the user follows
Global Everyone
