These are the 10 best movies and series on Amazon Prime Video in 2025
It’s Christmas, and you may have put on the Christmas movie Red One or Oh What Fun on Amazon Prime Video this holiday season. Very Christmasy, but secretly, there are better things to watch. These are the 10 best films and series released on Amazon Prime Video in 2025.
Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?
We are fans of game shows on streaming services because they are great to have on while you are doing something else, great to discuss with others, or to join in from the couch. In Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? Taylor Swift’s husband-to-be presents a game show in which you have to answer knowledge questions that children now also learn in primary school. It is a series full of ridicule, with various comedians participating. Sometimes it is a somewhat American affair, but it is still very entertaining.
She Rides Shotgun
Slightly more serious, the film She Rides Shotgun is about an ex-criminal who is on the run with his 11-year-old daughter, Polly, because a gang wants them dead. Together, they have to survive in a rather harsh world. It is both a coming-of-age story and a dark action film, based on the book by Jordan Harper. Starring Taron Egerton and Ana Sophia Heger.
The Mighty Nein
In the mood for anime? The Mighty Nein follows a group of fugitives and outcasts, bound by secrets. When a powerful, mysterious relic, The Beacon, falls into dangerous hands, they must learn to work together to save the realm and prevent reality itself from falling apart. That is really not necessarily their biggest speciality, so they are still investigating how best to approach it.
The Better Sister
The Better Sister is a series starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks. That is enough reason for us to want to see this production, but it has actually turned out to be a good series. It’s about a woman whose husband has been murdered, after which her sister comes along to support her. This story, based on the book by Alafair Burke, revolves around two sisters who are not necessarily besties but, through circumstances, grow closer together.
Black Bag
Black Bag is a spy thriller by Steven Soderbergh about a British secret agent and his wife, who end up in a security breach. What follows is an exciting battle in which several people must lose. It is a film with a lot of talking, so you have to pay close attention, but fortunately, that doesn’t make it too difficult for Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett: they play the stars of heaven as always.
Fallout
The new season of Fallout has just arrived online, and that’s fun again. The first season showed that game-based series can be great, and the fact that Amazon is also throwing a big budget at it helps the second season reach even greater heights. You may find it a bit much, but we are happy that the series is becoming increasingly extensive and enjoy returning to New Vegas. Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins are enjoying themselves again as they explore a post-apocalyptic world.
Merv
We recently wondered what Zooey Deschanel from the great New Girl was doing now, but the film Merw answers that question. It is a dog film about two owners who separate and then have to do something with the animal. This romcom shows how people can go way too far for their four-legged friend, or is it secretly for each other? In addition to Zooey Deschanel, the actor playing Rupert Murdoch on Disney+ is Charlie Cox.
Play Dirty
Play Dirty is a film in which Mark Wahlberg seeks out the action. It’s almost a film so full of action that you wonder when things will calm down. It centres on a thief who teams up with a handsome criminal to pull off a heist, only to have her turn on him. How exactly that unfolds in this entertaining action film starring Wahlberg and Rosa Salazar, among others.
Mr & Mrs Aslan
In the film Mr & Mrs Aslan, a woman, played by Yolanthe Cabauu, hides her life as an undercover agent from her husband, played by Sinan Eroglu. It has a bit of a Mr & Mrs Smith feel to it, so the name was certainly not chosen by accident.
Gen V
Gen V’s new season was released in September this year, and this The Boys spin-off is much appreciated. The dark humour is enjoyable, and the way it critiques society also makes this an interesting superhero series to watch. Not to mention the violence that passes you by. Just enjoy, though it remains to be seen whether there will be a third season: it hasn’t been announced yet, and there was some criticism of the second season’s story. We hope so, especially since The Boys is about to end as well.
