Polish development studio CD Projekt Red has announced that role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be postponed to February 2015. The game was initially expected to hit the market this year, but the studio wants more time for the game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally planned to be released in late 2014. However, in order to guarantee quality and make the game the way the development team envisioned, CD Projekt Red will spend a few months extra for development. This pushes the game to 2015, with February as the most current indication of a release date. The Polish development studio announced this in an open letter on Tuesday.

In the open letter, the CD Projekt Red board apologizes to gamers and its shareholders. However, the studio’s five top executives emphasize that the delay will ultimately benefit the game. The developers indicate that the game could still have made it to the end of 2014, but not without the quality possibly being compromised.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the sequel to The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The game series is based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The third installment in the series was announced in early February 2013 and will be released for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game once again centers on the ‘Witcher’ Geralt of Rivia, who hunts down the dark creatures of the Wild Hunt, while in the normal world there is also a war looming between the Northern Kingdoms and the Empire of Nilfraad.
