The Hague wants to double the number of charging stations within four years
The Hague plans to double the number of charging stations in the municipality within four years. The city currently has about 1200 charging stations and that number should increase to 2400. The responsible alderman wants to further stimulate electric driving, so that the air becomes cleaner.
300 charging stations must be added every year, so that the extra 1200 charging stations will be achieved within four years. The municipality reports that it has concluded an agreement with energy supplier Engie for the accelerated construction and management of the charging stations. This company will install the new charging stations in collaboration with Ecotap and says it will also supply green energy to drivers of electric cars.
The current 1200 charging stations in the municipality provide 2400 charging stations and there are also 4 fast charging stations. The municipality states that many residents of The Hague are switching from a car with a combustion engine to an electric car and that the current number of charging stations will therefore not be sufficient. With the announced doubling, the city wants to meet the demand.
This investment in expanding the number of charging stations aims to make the air cleaner. To this end, The Hague, like 34 other municipalities, has signed the recently concluded Clean Air Agreement together with nine provinces and the Minister of the Environment and Housing. A core target is to achieve a health gain of fifty percent by 2030 compared to the situation in 2016.
