System76 releases Bonobo WS laptop with Comet Lake chips and RTX 2080 GPU

System76 comes with a new laptop in the Bonobo line. The Bonobo WS runs on Linux, and has a Comet Lake CPU from Intel and up to a GeForce RTX 2080 video card and 128GB ram. The device costs at least 2,400 euros.

The Bonobo WS is System76’s latest Bonobo laptop. It is a barebone from Clevo, which the company uses more often. The laptop comes with an Intel Comet Lake generation i5, i7 or i9 processor. In addition, a GeForce RTX 2060, 2070 Super or RTX 2080 Super is available as a graphics card. The laptop supports up to 128GB of quad channel DDR4 memory. In terms of storage, the laptop has four m2 connections including a pci-e and a sata connection and two pci-e / sata connections, so that a maximum of 26 terabytes of storage can fit on the laptop.

The screen of the Bonobo WS is 17.3 inches and has either a full-hd resolution with 144Hz or a 4k resolution. In terms of connections, it has three USB 3.2 ports and a USB-C port with USB 3.2 gen 2×2 or Thunderbolt 3. There is also a gigabit ethernet port, and the laptop supports WiFi 6.

The battery of the Bonobo is 97Wh, but System76 does not say how long the battery will last. The laptop runs on System76’s self-designed Linux distro Pop! _OS 20.4 LTS, but it is also possible to take Ubuntu 20.04 LTS as the operating system. The Bonobo also has support for Coreboot and System76’s own open source Embedded Controller firmware.

The laptop measures 4.3×39.9×31.9cm and weighs 3.8 kilos. The price starts at 2399 dollars, converted and including VAT, about 2400 euros. That is for the cheapest configuration: the price can go up to more than $ 11,000 in the most expensive configuration.
