Synology announced the DS1621 +, a six-bay NAS that features an embedded AMD Ryzen V1500B. Compared to the DS1618 +, the nas has a more powerful processor and support for SSDs for caching.

The DS1621 + can be seen as the successor to the DS1618 +. A comparison shows that the Ryzen Embedded V1500B of the DS1621 + offers more computing power than the Atom C3538-soc of the DS1618 + by, among other things, being able to handle eight threads and support more instruction sets.

In addition, the DS1621 + has support for DDR4 with error correcting code and the NAS can contain two M.2 NVMe SSDs for caching purposes. Synology itself has put a performance page online showing that the company has measured maximum sequential throughput speeds of 2.3Gbit / s in read and 1.1Gbit / s in write. At 4kB random read the nas performs 110,608iops.

According to Synology’s measurements, this is the fastest NAS in its Plus Series. The DS1621xs + announced last month does offer better specifications and performance, but that system has appeared in the more expensive xs + series. Synology has not yet announced the price of the DS1621 +.
