Both Steam and GOG.com have included the original 2004 Star Wars: Battlefront in their lineups. The release is in celebration of May the 4th, the day when fans celebrate the existence of Star Wars.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic is available to purchase DRM-free on GOG.com. The game platform is offering the game as part of Star Wars Week. Discounts available during this week include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Star Wars Episode 1: Racer. The September 2004 Battlefront game will continue to be available after the week.

The game has appeared on Steam without any further announcement. Requires the user to have Windows XP or later versions, a 1.8GHz processor, at least 1GB of RAM and a video card that has at least DirectX 9 with 256MB of vram. For multiplayer support, the player has to take a number of steps, Steam user AnthonyBF2 describes. Since GameSpy shut down its game servers in 2014, there was no more multiplayer support.

The action shooter Star Wars: Battlefront was commissioned by LucasArts by Pandemic Studio and was a success in 2004. The sequel was released a year later. It has previously appeared on Steam and GOG.com and has also received multiplayer support. In 2015, the reboot of the game was released by EA’s DICE.
