Nintendo claims that Splatoon 3 has already sold 3.45 million copies in Japan. The game came out last Friday for the Nintendo Switch. This makes it the most successful Nintendo Switch release in the country to date.

Nintendo makes the sales figures self known. It concerns both digital and physical sales of Splatoon 3 in Japan. How the game is doing worldwide, Nintendo has not yet announced. In any case, Splatoon 3 breaks previous Nintendo game sales records in the country.

With 3.45 million copies sold in three days, Splatoon 3 overtakes other successful Nintendo releases, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Pokémon Sword/Shield. Also, the game will probably soon catch up with its predecessor. Splatoon 2 sold approximately 4 million copies in Japan. The best-selling Nintendo Switch game worldwide is still Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with nearly 47 million copies sold.

Nintendo released Splatoon 3 for the Nintendo Switch on September 9. The game again features the familiar Turf War mode, in which players have to conquer an area by daubing the environment with paint. The game also features a single player storyline and a co-op mode.
