Sony has given its add-on lenses for smartphones and tablets a firmware update. This gives the lenses the ability to shoot video material in full HD resolution. The ISO range is also increased, although it is not clear whether the photo quality is improved as a result.

The new software for the lenses, which concerns the QX-10 and QX-100, has been put on its website by Sony. From the changelog it becomes clear that the video resolution is increased from 1440×1080 pixels to 1920×1080 pixels. If you want to update the firmware of your lens attachment, you have to do this via a PC or Mac.

It also appears that Sony has increased the ISO range of its two lenses. For the QX-10, the maximum ISO value that can be set goes from 1600 to 3200, while the QX-100 model gets a significant increase with an increase from 3200 to 12,800. It is unclear whether Sony has also addressed the photo quality. Sony also states that the QX-100 has received an extra setting option for the shutter, although this is not specified.

Sony previously released an accessory with which the QX-10 and QX-100 can also be used for tablets. This requires the purchase of a special mount that is compatible with several models. Previously, the add-on lenses were only suitable for a few smartphones.
