Sony has announced the Xperia 5 IV smartphone. The phone, which according to the manufacturer is ‘compact’, will be released in two weeks for 1049 euros. Compared to the predecessor, there is a battery with more capacity in the smaller housing.

The Xperia 5 IV has a 5000mAh battery, compared to the 4500mAh of the predecessor. Compared to the predecessor, support for wireless charging has also been added. The screen has remained approximately the same size and has the same resolution and refresh rate: 1080p and 120Hz.

The 5 IV has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-soc from Qualcomm and not the newer 8+ Gen 1. Compared to the 5 III, there is also a downgrade in the camera system. Instead of the telephoto camera with true optical zoom, the Xperia 5 IV again has a fixed focal point camera. The camera with telephoto lens also reaches less far: 60mm, or 2.5x the primary camera. The 5 III has a camera with a telephoto lens that can go from 3x to 4.4x and can switch between the two points.

The price has also gone up slightly compared to last year. The suggested retail price is 1049 euros, instead of 999 euros. Phones are getting a bit more expensive lately, but not much. Sony will release the phone in the Benelux in a few weeks, the company said.
