Software Update: WinRAR 3.90 Beta 5

RAR Labs has released the fifth beta release of version 3.90 of its archiving programs RAR and WinRAR. The popular compression tool is available for a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It handles most common formats, including rar, zip, cab, arj, lzh, tar, gz, ace, uue, bz2, jar, iso, 7z and z, has a skinnable interface and support for Zip64 and multivolume cab files. The main changes in version 3.90 are the separate versions for 64bit operating systems and the support for multicore processors. As with the fourth beta release, only the Windows versions are available, while the other versions are stuck at beta 3. In beta 5, the following two issues have been fixed:

Bugs fixed in version 3.90 beta 5:

  • “Convert” command could fail if original and resulting archives were multivolume and name of original archive included DBCS (Chinese, Japanese or Korean) characters;
  • WinRAR did not add “Extract to folder” item to Windows context menus for ZIP archives if Windows Compressed Folders was active.
