Software Update: Wine 7.7

A new development build of Wine has been released with version number 7.7. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API and allows you to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, and macOS. A large group of developers contribute to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be ready. A stable edition is published a few times a year. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without the help of minor adjustments, contains 28,484 titles at the time of writing. Since version 7.5, the following changes and improvements have been made:

  • More progress on the PE conversion of the X11 and OSS drivers.
  • Support for UTF-8 as default Ansi code page.
  • Theming support for control panel applets.
  • Various bug fixes

What’s new in release 7.6:

  • Mono engine updated to version 7.2.0.
  • More progress on the PE conversion of graphics drivers.
  • Local support using the new CLDR-based database.
  • Various bug fixes
